Siemens sponsors Europe’s vocational championships in Graz

Austria, Graz. The 7th European Championship of Vocational Professions (EuroSkills) will take place in Austria from 22 to 26 September 2021. The best apprentices will be competing for the EuroSkills title in about 48 different trades or skills under the banner “#We are skills!”. After the event was postponed last year, all those involved have done everything possible with unbroken enthusiasm and verve, to have EuroSkills take place in Austria in the fall of 2021. The European championship ‘EuroSkills’ brings the young elite from all over Europe in front of the curtain and is an important flagship event to valorize vocational education and training and to focus attention on the importance of well-trained skilled workers.

European best talented youngster

This is Europe’s biggest biennial non-academic competition of its kind and Siemens is one of the gold sponsors. By supporting EuroSkills, the company is promoting excellence in the development of industrial skills and competence to enhance the status and quality of Vocational Education and Training (VET). Siemens provides software and hardware products from its industrial automation portfolio and accompanies participants before, after and during the various skill competitions. As calls for qualified, skilled individuals increase more and more in the professional world, comprehensive vocational training is becoming one of the foundations for a successful career. EuroSkills competition, the European equivalent of WorldSkills, allows young people to measure their expertise in various vocational categories from the industrial, craft and service sectors. A total of over 400 talented youngsters up to the age of 26, from a total of 19 of the 31 WorldSkills Europe Member Countries, will be competing in Austria against each other in 38 official Competition Skills and 10 Host Presentation Skills to earn one of the prestigious medals.
The competitors are either trained professionals or graduates of a vocational high school. EuroSkills Graz, expects to attract thousands of visitors, is organized by the non-profit organization EuroSkills 2020 GmbH, and will be held at the Skills Village “Schwarzl Freizeitzentrum (SFZ)”, in Premstätten, near Graz.

Top-quality equipment

Leading up to the competition, Siemens provides additional to the software and hardware its technical know-how, learning and training documents as well as technical advice to the vocational training centers, its experts and competitors for preparation.

The company supplies automation products for 4 competitions, for example, Simatic S7 controllers and comfort panels for the “Industrial Control” discipline (Skill 19). These Simatic S7 controllers and many other Simatic products like RFID sensors and Scalance switches are used in the Host Presentation (HP) Skill “Industry 4.0” (HP 2). Sinamics V20 frequency converter is used in the “Industrial Mechanics” (HP 3) challenge. The Logo! logic module is deployed in the discipline “Electrical Installations” (Skill 18).

For the “CNC Milling” discipline (Skill 7) and the Host Presentation Skill “CNC Turning” (HP 10), both CNC machines are equipped with Siemens’ computer numerical controllers.

At the Siemens Austria booth, Siemens will give an insight into its vocational training program and offer visitors the opportunity to discover their skills. Ready for digitalization? Siemens’ commitment to EuroSkills is an essential element of the Siemens Automation Cooperates with Education (SCE) program, which provides educators active support in the areas of drive technology, automation and digitalization.

Since 2011, Siemens has been involved in the vocational World Championships within the framework of the “Siemens Automation Cooperates with Education” scheme.

The biennial EuroSkills competition for non-academic occupations is organized by WorldSkills Europe in conjunction with the European host country. The main objective is to share information, best practices and methods as well as offer a European platform for vocational training standards.
