Growth mindset. Business Understanding. Digitalization. Collaboration.
Strategic priorities are the guiding lights for the Siemens Professionals Engaged in Active Communications (SPEAC), a high-potential development program for early-career communications professionals.
Why SPEAC up now?
Transformation affects all of us at Siemens, so we need to take real ownership of our careers to ensure our skillsets leverage our innovative potential through developing and enhancing our sustainable skillsets. Every element of the SPEAC therefore supports Siemens’ strategic pillars and the needs of the function:
- Feedback from mentors and development coaches nourish and foster our growth mindset;
- A professional entrepreneurship expert and managers will guide us to to boost our business understanding;
- Existing resources like LinkedIn Learning focus on function-specific technological skills like data storytelling and analytics; and
- Group project work empowers us through active collaboration.
The strategy is important, but the people make SPEAC special.
The program is selective yet inclusive: 66% of the 12 SPEACers from the class of 2021 are women, and we hold a range of roles, from PR spokeperson and data analysts to digital comms and event managers.
We represent equal parts headquarters and regions, as well as our businesses, Smart Infrastructure, Digital Industries, and Healthineers. We are also geographically diverse, collaborating virtually from six different countries including Germany, USA, Switzerland, the UAE, China, and Singapore. One thing that binds us all together is mutual respect – and the same Teams background.
“It’s refreshing to meet and connect with people outside of my day-to-day team and to finally take time this year to prioritize my personal development.” – Khairah Sumarto, Marketing Professional at Smart Infrastructure, SPEAC 2021
Kicking off: From 0 to Team by week 1
It’s a truism to say that a strong network is key to professional growth. Building relationships is about sharing just as much as it is about receiving, and that’s what we emphasized throughout all our sessions. From breaking the ice to co-creating a community manifesto together on shared platforms, and from making plans for our development in pairs to exchanging with recent SPEAC alumni (our peer mentors).
For now, the Kickoff was about getting to know each other as people and becoming inspired, but this is just the beginning. We will be sure to keep the comms community posted on the status of our learnings and our projects, because we want to deliver meaningful content with impact.
“The SPEAC is full of such an inspiring, creative and talented cast of characters, it makes me proud simply being able to call myself a part of this crew.”Julie Lipinski, Project Lead Digital Event Management at Siemens Healthineers, SPEAC 2021
When we met with the Head of Communications Clarissa Haller, she quoted a famous saying: “with every great opportunity comes great responsibility.“
We will take this wisdom to heart as we embark on a year of personal and professional transformation via the SPEAC 2021.
