Climate change is the greatest threat to humanity, spanning all generations. More people are becoming aware of the issue and expect big businesses and governments worldwide to join a global effort to protect the planet. However, for an unusual issue such as this one, a conventional approach cannot be used.
While the whole world is experiencing climate change, the true demographic that will suffer the worst consequences is Generation Z – my generation. When it comes to global crises, we have often been left aside, as it is thought that we aren’t knowledgeable enough or eligible to talk about these pressing issues, but it’s quite the opposite. We are far more aware of global issues and solutions than any other generation because we were born into a world where technology has been at our fingertips from a young age. We have a global perspective, like no other generation before us.
Governments and big industry leaders should be talking to us because it is our generation that will have to live with their decisions. Considering this, we must contribute our goals and aspirations, allowing for an inclusive plan that takes everyone into account. It allows older generations to see a new way of thinking that can inspire them in ways that we may not comprehend just yet.
We are a powerful asset to have! We as a generation have been given multiple platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat, where we are able to share across these common global issues. Our connection and roles on these platforms are vital for companies to grasp to get an insight into different solutions for our common crisis.
This talk between the older and younger generations needs to be prevalent for a successful and sustainable future. Just like we use globalization to connect the world’s economies, why can’t we do that with the generations?
